Samsung has introduced two new M7 and M8 models to their Smart Monitor lineup.

Available in both 27- and 32-inch variations, the M7 and M8 feature what Samsung calls Iconic Slim Design, and they measure 11.39mm at their thinnest point.

The back of the monitor, which is often bereft of any visual flair, gets a little aesthetic treatment with a chic, herringbone pattern.

Both monitors feature 4K resolution and decent colour coverage of up to 99 per cent Standard Red Green Blue (sRGB) gamut, so designers and content creators will find them suitable for productive work.

They also have a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The M7 and M8 use Vertical Alignment (VA) panels instead of the [now] more ubiquitous In-Plane Switching (IPS) panels and generally have better contrast at the expense of viewing angle. But that's fine for a monitor.

They differ slightly in some areas: The M7 offers 300nit brightness and High Dynamic Range (HDR) 10 support while the M8 has 400nit brightness and HDR10+ support.

Both monitors support the removable Full High Definition (FHD) SlimFit camera, though it only comes included with the M8 and you will have to buy it separately if you get the M7. In addition, only the M8 model comes with a height-adjustable stand with tilt support.

What the Smart Monitor offers is the ability to run it like a smart TV as well, making it a one-stop entertainment station. It's powered by Tizen and can be used as part of Samsung SmartThing's ecosystem.

You can also work without a Personal Computer (PC) using embedded apps like Microsoft 365 and use it in Multi View, which lets you place a web browser and your Microsoft app side by side on the same screen for ease of use.

Multi View also supports external sources, including Android phones and tablets [Android 4.2 and up], Airplay two-supported iPhones, iPads and Macbooks, and Windows 10 [and up] PCs.

Ports-wise, the selection is more modest, with only one HDMI 2.0 (HDCP 2.2), one USB-C (HDCP2.2, 65W Power Delivery), and two USB-A (USB 2.0). The monitors also offer WI-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.2 for wireless connectivity.

For Singapore, the M7 model is only available in Warm White. For the M8, you can choose between Warm White, Sunset Pink, and Spring Green.

However, the latter two colours are exclusive to the Samsung Online Store. From now until July 31, customers who purchase any M7 or M8 model in Warm White will receive a complimentary Samsung USB Flash Drive-Type C 256GB valued at SGD59.90 with their purchase.

For Malaysia, only the 32" models in warm white will be available. Prices are as below; take note of the model number as last year's models have the same product name.
