'It's draining when I'm doing a full-time job': Fifa esports player shares struggles of juggling work and gaming

My Gamer Life is an AsiaOne original series where gaming professionals and aspirants in Singapore share the highs, lows, successes, and failures through personal stories on how gaming has defined the course of their lives.

Managing work and play isn't easy, but Amraan Gani's doing his best to make it work.

In an interview with AsiaOne for our video series My Gamer Life, Fifa esports player Amraan shared the difficulties of balancing his esports career with his full-time job.

"When there's a major competition coming up, a few weeks before that, I'll put in around six to seven hours a day when I'm going all out," Amraan, 29, said.

"It's not easy — it's draining when I'm doing a full-time job."

Amraan is a Singaporean Fifa esports player for Team Flash and has finished first place on the global stage not once but twice at the EA Champions Cup 2018, for both Spring and Winter tournaments.

His team recently came in first place at the Asia playoffs of the FIFAe Club Series 2023.

But beyond his various achievements in esports, Amraan also works as an operations executive during office hours.

By the time he returns home there's just "a few hours left" and he's left exhausted.

"But the passion for the game — I think that's a motivating factor for me, and that's how I keep myself going," Amraan said.

"I don't want to stop now. I feel like I'm playing well and I want to do this for the next few years."
