Apple launches Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for the iPad

As we creep slowly towards a future centred around mobile devices, Apple announced two new Pro apps-Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro-for the iPad.

Touch interfaces are entirely different from the tried and tested mouse and keyboard, and Apple says that Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro on iPad will enable users to enhance their workflows with the immediacy and intuitiveness of Multi-Touch gestures.

When you think about it, it's pretty cool that you can now record, edit, finish, and share your projects just using one über-portable device if you have Final Cut Pro on an iPad. With a new jog wheel and Live Drawing feature, users can draw and write directly on top of video content using Apple Pencil. If you're using an M2 iPad Pro, you can even hover your Apple Pencil to quickly skim and preview footage without touching the screen. And thanks to the colour-accurate Liquid Retina XDR display, you can apply colour grades accurately from your tablet.

Final Cut Pro also leverages Apple's silicon and machine learning capabilities to speed up editing tasks, such as Scene Removal Mask, which lets you replace or remove the background even if you did not use a green screen. Final Cut Pro for iPad also features a vast library of professional graphics, effects, and audio so you can enhance your content with less effort.

Similarly, Logic Pro for iPad dangles the promise of an all-in-one professional music creation station. With Multi-Touch gestures, creators can play software instruments and interact naturally with controls, as well as navigate complex projects with pinch-to-zoom and swipe-to-scroll. The new sound browser uses dynamic filtering that makes it easier for users to discover (and test) the appropriate sound clips for their work.

And with over 100 powerful instruments and effects plug-ins such as vintage EQs, compressors, and reverbs, creators have a wealth of tools at their fingertips to shape their music with. Coupled with tools such as Beat Breaker (time and pitch-morphing), Quick Sampler (chop and transform audio samples into playable instruments), Step Sequencer (programme rhythm section and automate plug-ins), Drum Machine Designer (custom drum kits), Live Loops (build arrangements from musical loops) and Pro Mixer (full-featured mixer), users can create virtually anything with their tablet.

Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad will be available on the App Store as subscriptions starting Wednesday, May 24. Each app will be available on the App Store for $6.98 per month or $69 per year with a one-month free trial. You'll need an iPad with at least an M1 chip for Final Cut Pro and at least an A12 Bionic chip for Logic Pro.
