A stray dog in China was brutally killed and dismembered by two college students who lured it to its death.

After coaxing the stray into the school dormitory, the students from Sichuan Vocational College of Information Technology slaughtered the dog in the locked toilet during the wee hours of last Thursday (Oct 19) morning, Chinese media reported.

Photos circulating on Chinese social media showed the skinned carcass of the dog with its innards and severed limbs lined up neatly on the dormitory floor.

On Oct 21, the college released a statement announcing that the incident has been reported to the local police after an internal investigation, reported China Central Television.

The two students were referred to the police for further investigation and have been detained on campus and placed on probation.

The school also emphasised in the statement that they firmly oppose acts of animal cruelty and will further strengthen the education management of students.

Netizens expressed their horror and outrage over the gruesome killing, with one exclaiming: "How terrifying, who would dare to have such a person as their classmate?"

"The dog is innocent, you can choose not to love it, but you cannot kill it," said another.
